Living in The Florida Keys
The Florida Keys are a 113-mile chain of islands connected by the Overseas Highway (US-1), running from Key Largo down to Key West at the southernmost point of the continental United States. Living here means accepting real, structural tradeoffs most of the rest of Florida doesn't carry -- a single hurricane-evacuation road, some of the highest housing and insurance costs in the state relative to the small housing stock, and a slower, island-paced economy built almost entirely on tourism, diving, and fishing -- in exchange for a lifestyle and natural setting genuinely unlike anywhere else in the country.
