Living in Northwest Florida / The Panhandle
Florida's Panhandle runs along the Gulf from Pensacola east through the Emerald Coast (Destin, Fort Walton Beach, 30A) to Panama City, and is culturally and economically distinct from the rest of the state -- it runs on Central time, not Eastern, feels closer in character to coastal Alabama and Georgia than to South Florida, and its economy leans on military installations (Eglin AFB, Naval Air Station Pensacola, Tyndall AFB) and tourism far more than the finance/healthcare/tech mix found further south. The Gulf beaches here (sugar-white sand, emerald-green water) are the region's signature draw, alongside a lower cost of living than most of peninsular Florida's coastal markets.
